What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

• The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a dental benefit administered by Health Canada, which provides dental coverage for Canadians who do not have dental benefits and have a household income of less than $90,000 a year.

• Enrolment of CDCP is not automatic, which means you are required to go through a registration process to receive the CDCP benefit card.

• For patients with adjusted family income of less than $70,000, CDCP covers up to 100% of the CDCP designated fee schedule, which is around 75-87% of the regular dental fee in most provinces in Canada. The coverage may be even lower if the patient’s adjusted family income is higher than $70,000.

• Similar to other dental insurances, each specific dental service item is covered at a different fee level under the CDCP, and not all dental services are covered. There is also a limit on treatment frequency, as well as an annual limit of the total amount that CDCP will cover in each year.

• The portion of the dental fee that is not covered by the CDCP remains the responsibility of the patient, and the patient is expected to pay that portion upfront upon completion of the treatments provided.

• Before dental treatments are provided, we will provide a cost estimate, and perform a pre-authorization to determine your CDCP eligibility and coverage. We will inform you how much CDCP will cover for your treatment, and the remaining amount you must pay upfront upon completion of the treatments.

• Therefore, it is important that you inform us ahead of time if you plan to use CDCP benefits for your dental treatments, and provide us with your CDCP card or information.
